Martin Battersby (1914-1982) studied architecture in London and spent 5 years in the studio of Gill and Reigate. He became a set designer for The Old Vic, as a painter he specialized in trompe l’oeil and painted many rooms around the world. Battersby is probably best known for his collecting of Art- Nouveau and Art Deco writing books on the subject. Helped to establish Brighton Museums collection of 20th Century design.
